Morton’s Neuroma
Morton’s neuroma is a thickening of the nerve tissue between your third and fourth toes. In rare cases, nerve pain occurs between the second and third toes.
Symptoms include tingling between the third and fourth toes, toe cramping, sharp, shooting, or burning pain in the ball of your foot (and sometimes toes), pain that increases when wearing shoes or pressing on the area, and pain that gets worse over time. Morton’s neuroma is more common in women than men but the exact cause is unknown.
Experts point to a variety of causes, such as abnormal toe positioning, flat feet, bunions, hammertoes, high arches, tight shoes, and high heels.
