Migraines are defined as headaches that usually affect one side of the head and are often associated with nausea, vomiting, photophobia (increased sensitivity to light), and occasionally phonophobia (increased sensitivity to sound).

There are usually a couple different reasons for migraines including hormonal issues, food allergies (sensitivities), and more commonly, pressure on the brain and spinal cord due to adverse mechanical stress. We’ll focus on the latter.

Loss of curve in the neck can cause neck pain and tension but can also be a major player in migraine headaches. Degenerative disc disease or osteoarthritis and bulging or herniated discs can also result from this loss of curve and contribute to migraines.

Spinal decompression (disc decompression) is one of the many treatment techniques used at Spine Correction Center of the Rockies to get lasting results with migraine headaches. Along with decompression, we use chiropractic manipulation, non-steroidal trigger point injections, and active body orthotics.
